Cyanogen kills itself before killing Android

Cyanogen former CEO Kirt McMaster said they are putting a bullet through Google’s head. But before CyanogenOS can actually kill Google Android, it kills itself.

Cyanogen said all the services and nightly builds will be ceased. At the beginning of next year, devices use CyanogenOS, such as OnePlus One, will need to transition to CyanogenMod ROM. One of the main reason that Cyanogen can’t sell it to handset makers easily, is because they need to ditch Android and Google services entirely in favor of Cyanogen’s own alternatives.

Here is the original post at Cyanogen,

As part of the ongoing consolidation of Cyanogen, all services and Cyanogen-supported nightly builds will be discontinued no later than 12/31/16. The open source project and source code will remain available for anyone who wants to build CyanogenMod personally.
